PYLUSD Middle and High Schools Come Together for 4th Annual Unified Dance

PYLUSD 4th Annual Unified Dance

On Thursday, February 29, Yorba Linda Middle School hosted Valadez Middle, Travis Ranch, Valencia High, El Dorado High, Esperanza High, and Yorba Linda High schools for its 4th Annual Unified Dance. Special education students and general education partners from all across the district enjoyed a morning of dancing, activities, and fun. This popular event has built a reputation among many students, teachers, and support staff as their favorite gathering of the year.

The Thomas Lasorda Jr. Field House was the venue for the Disney-themed event. Students danced to the music played by DJ Diamond, DJ B Diamond, otherwise known as Teresa Burnett, a confident and highly capable adult with Down syndrome. Students participated in many Disney-themed activities hosted by peer leaders from ASB, WEB, Yearbook, Unified and Advanced Art, and GEAR UP. Together, the groups facilitated face painting, balloon artistry, carnival-style games, and much more for students to enjoy. The gym was filled with electric energy and each school’s student body exemplified the spirit of unity and inclusivity.

The Unified Dance is a place where everyone feels accepted and empowered through a strong senseof belonging and camaraderie. Way go to, YLMS Bobcats! Thanks to Yorba Linda Middle School’s administrative team, staff, students, and PTSA, for supporting the event as well as the Association of Placentia Linda Educators (APLE) and St. John Philoptochos. All of their collective contributions made the event “The Happiest Place in PYLUSD!”
