Esperanza High School senior Emily Sun was sworn in as the new Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD) Student Board Member on Tuesday, February 13, 2024. Her term will last throughout the second semester of the school year.

As the Student Board Member, Emily will prepare a monthly report to present at each Board Meeting. Her reports will highlight recent activities and events occurring on the district’s high school and alternative school campuses. She will also cast preferential votes on important matters related to the school district.

Emily grew up in our district having attended Woodsboro Elementary School, Kraemer Middle School, and now Esperanza High School. As a senior, she dedicates much of her time to her passion for the performing arts as a member of the Esperanza Entertainment Unit, Wind Ensemble, and Jazz Ensemble, where she is a lead trumpet player.

Emily’s senior year also includes several AP classes such as computer science, government, economics, calculus, and literature as well as other extra-curricular activities like writing for the school’s newspaper, membership in the Asian Pacific Islander Student Union, and varsity volleyball, just to name a few.

Following graduation and beginning in Fall 2024, Emily hopes to attend a university to pursue an education in psychology or a related field. She has a strong support system in her mom, Lillian, dad, Mike, an older brother, and two rescue dogs, Ginger and Dusty.

The district is thrilled that Emily has agreed to serve as the Student Board Member during her final semester in PYLUSD.
