Yorba Linda High School’s small but mighty Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) chapter attended the California FBLA Southern Section Leadership Conference at Biola University on Saturday, Feb. 6.
It was a full day of competitive events, test-taking and performance tasks. Up against chapters with over 130 members, the Yorba Linda team placed in three of the six events they competed in.
Students Harshal Vaza and Johnny State worked collaboratively on their team event, marketing, and placed in the top five.
Nick Ding, Zachary Co and Simran Chowdhry started their day taking tests in their team event, entrepreneurship. In the afternoon, they took on the challenge of participating in a “Shark Tank” event where they had to come up with a solution to reduce e-waste created by cell phones. Ideas were submitted by over 40 teams, and narrowed down to the top 15. Yorba Linda made the cut! From there, it was further whittled down to top six. Nick, Zachary and Simran took first place in the event, earning a cash prize! They also worked collaboratively in their entrepreneurship test, and placed 10th among all teams in the event.
Congratulations to all the Yorba Linda chapter members that worked so hard in their first-ever competition. The school anticipates that they will bring even more recognition for Yorba Linda next year.
Congratulations on a job well done. This is quite an accomplishment especially under the stress of competition. On behalf of the Yorba Linda Chamber of Commerce I would like to congratulate you all on your win. These bright young professionals are our business people of tomorrow and the Academy and teachers should be proud.
Congratulations to Yorba Linda High School’s Future Business Leaders of America chapter for its remarkable performance at the California FBLA Southern Section Leadership Conference at Biola University on February 6, 2016. The Chapter’s outstanding performance is notable given its relative size and experience compared to that of many of the other competing chapters. As a parent of a YLHS student, I am proud of your preparation and performance. No doubt, your family, teachers, peers and our community all feel the same way.
