In April, preschoolers at Lakeview Elementary School enthusiastically embraced the harvest of the month, sugar snap peas, from the old grove orange. Their excitement was palpable as they explored the vibrant green pods, eagerly snapping them to reveal the sweet, crunchy peas inside. With wide eyes and big smiles, the children marveled at the process of harvesting and enjoyed the sensory experience of touching and tasting the fresh produce. This hands-on activity not only exposed them to a new healthy snack but also fostered a deeper connection to nature and the origins of their food. The joy and curiosity displayed by the preschoolers underscored the importance of incorporating agricultural education and fresh, local produce into early childhood curriculum.
