Maintenance and Facilities Department Goes Above and Beyond to Prepare Campuses for the New School Year

Summer has been a bustling season for the Maintenance and Facilities Department, and this year has been no different. Under the expert guidance of Director Ralph Figueroa, the team has been hard at work, ensuring the district’s schools are ready to welcome students and staff back in just a few weeks.

This summer, the department has accomplished an impressive array of projects. From installing 50,000 square feet of new flooring at six different sites to completing 674 work orders, their efforts are nothing short of extraordinary. Safety is always a top priority, and the team has ensured this by completing districtwide safety painting and replacing HVAC filters, while also converting to the Pelican HVAC control system at various sites.

At Tuffree Middle School, the multipurpose room received much-needed improvements, and across the district, stained ceiling tiles were replaced, HVAC coils deep-cleaned, and fire panels upgraded at Glenknoll and Topaz Elementary Schools. The PA systems at Kraemer Middle School and Travis Ranch School were also replaced, ensuring clear communication across campuses.

The department tackled HVAC duct cleaning at Travis Ranch School and Esperanza High School and installed eight 15-ton HVAC units at Bernardo Middle School, along with additional units at Rose Drive Elementary and Tuffree Middle Schools. Tennis courts at all high schools received resurfacing and repairs, and new marquees were installed at Esperanza and Valencia High Schools.

Preparing for the upcoming school year, the team has also been busy with a deep cleaning at all schools, installing new HVAC systems in gymnasiums at El Dorado, Esperanza, and Valencia High Schools, and readying new preschool programs at Bryant Ranch, Glenview, Morse, and Tynes Elementary Schools. Construction is also in progress for the expanded learning programs at Ruby, Topaz, and Wagner Elementary Schools, and for the field lighting at El Dorado High School.

Their work doesn’t stop there—roofing projects were completed at eight sites, tracks were refurbished at Tuffree and Bernardo Yorba Middle Schools, and field renovations were undertaken on 12 sports fields. The playgrounds are now safer and more enjoyable, thanks to the installation of 3360 square yards of Fiber Fall (woodchips) on 76 playgrounds and the trimming of 370 trees districtwide.

Additional improvements include asphalt upgrades at Glenknoll Elementary’s upper-grade playground and Yorba Linda Middle School’s basketball courts, a new location and offices for Buena Vista Virtual Academy, and enhancements at the Universal Sports Institute and the Orange County School of Computer Science at Bernardo Yorba Middle School.

And that’s just the beginning! The Maintenance and Facilities Department’s dedication to excellence ensures that campuses are in pristine condition, ready for another year of learning and growth. Sites are almost ready to welcome everyone back to school in the coming weeks.
