Kraemer Middle School and Ruby Drive Welcome Over 100 Educators from Across Southern California to Showcase AVID Strategies

Kraemer Middle School, an AVID National Demonstration School, and Ruby Drive Elementary, an AVID Showcase School, recently hosted successful AVID showcases that highlighted their commitment to student achievement and college readiness.

On Tuesday, October 15, Kraemer Middle School welcomed over 65 educators, including representatives from multiple school districts and AVID administrators from across Southern California. Attendees participated in classroom tours, student panels, and collaborative sessions that demonstrated Kraemer’s dedication to fostering college and career readiness through AVID strategies. The showcase highlighted the hard work and dedication of Kraemer’s staff, students, and community, showcasing AVID’s transformative impact on student learning.

The following day, on Wednesday, October 16, Ruby Drive Elementary hosted its annual AVID Showcase, spotlighting the growth and achievements of students involved in the school-wide program. Ruby Drive welcomed 50 teachers and administrators from 10 elementary schools, reaffirming its commitment to building a college-going culture and empowering students with the skills needed for higher education and beyond.

Principal Carmona opened the event with a warm welcome, emphasizing the importance of AVID’s mission to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success. Her presentation highlighted AVID’s core strategies, including organizational skills, critical thinking, and collaborative learning, as seen through the WICOR (Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, Reading) framework in all TK-6th grade classrooms at Ruby Drive.

During classroom visits, student ambassadors proudly shared their AVID folders and binders, showcasing their note-taking and organizational techniques. Whether it was philosophical chairs in 1st grade, collaborative writing in 4th grade, or WICOR partner work in 6th grade, visitors were impressed by the collaborative lessons and the confidence and engagement of Ruby Scholars.

The AVID Showcases at both Kraemer Middle and Ruby Drive Elementary were more than just events—they were celebrations of the hard work, determination, and potential of every student. Visitors gained firsthand insight into how AVID prepares students for future academic and personal success, solidifying both schools’ status as leaders in fostering college-ready learners.
