Hundreds of Talented Students Come Together to Perform at 48th Annual District Band Pageant

The 48th annual Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD) Band Pageant took place on Wednesday, November 6, at Bradford Stadium in Placentia. Students from all six PYLUSD middle schools and all four PYLUSD comprehensive high schools joined together to perform both individually and as a combined ensemble, thrilling thousands of cheering family members, teachers, staff, school and district administrators, and community supporters.

The evening began with each color guard and band performing their parade marches, followed by a warm welcome from PYLUSD Superintendent Dr. Alex Cherniss. Dr. Cherniss expressed his gratitude to the community for their ongoing support of arts education and its impact on student success.

“As your school district and educational partners, we recognize that arts education provides a wide range of academic, social, emotional, and cognitive benefits for students,” he shared. “These programs foster creativity and innovation, encouraging students to think critically and express themselves. In addition to the hundreds of students you see on the field tonight, our dedicated elementary instrumental and vocal teachers provide music instruction to over 9,000 students in grades K-6. I am pleased to announce that our K-6 music program is flourishing, and every child in all 21 elementary schools is receiving a quality music education.”

Under the direction of Bincins Garcia, the band director at Yorba Linda High School, all ten bands joined together on the field to perform the “Star Spangled Banner” and a patriotic medley.

The evening continued with a brief intermission, followed by the high school drumlines showcasing their rhythmic talents as a unified ensemble before each school presented its field show. The Band Pageant was a wonderful celebration of imaginative music, extraordinary talents, vibrant pageantry, and abundant PYLUSD pride.
