On Thursday, October 10, Fairmont Elementary School’s Parent Teacher Association (PTA) proudly hosted a Book Fair Family Night, an engaging event that brought together students, families, and educators in celebration of literacy and lifelong learning.
The evening served not only as a fundraiser but also as a meaningful opportunity to emphasize the vital role that reading plays in academic achievement. Teachers and PTA members highlighted how literacy serves as a foundational skill across all areas of education, from science and social studies to mathematics and technical disciplines. By fostering strong reading habits early in life, students develop critical thinking, comprehension, and communication skills that form the cornerstone of future success.
Families were encouraged to dedicate at least 20 minutes each evening to reading together, reinforcing the importance of shared literacy experiences at home. This simple daily routine helps cultivate vocabulary growth, imagination, and curiosity—fostering a lifelong love of learning, one story at a time.
Fairmont Elementary School continues to demonstrate its commitment to nurturing readers and supporting family engagement in education, creating a community where every child can thrive through the power of books.
