Woodsboro Elementary Promoting College and Career Readiness Through an AVID College Recruiting Fair

Students at Woodsboro Elementary School participated in an AVID College Recruiting Fair organized and facilitated by Mrs. Carlson’s sixth-grade GATE class. Prior to the event, participating students completed a RIASEC career interest assessment designed to help identify potential career pathways aligned with their interests and strengths. Using the results of the questionnaire, students explored a variety of colleges, each representing specific areas of academic and career emphasis.

Mrs. Carlson’s students developed informational brochures and multimedia presentations that provided attendees with detailed insights into each institution, including academic programs and related career opportunities. Following the presentations, students were asked to reflect on their experiences by evaluating their level of interest in each college and articulating factors that would influence their future postsecondary decisions.

The college recruiters and student presenters demonstrated a high level of professionalism and engagement throughout the event. Through this interactive learning experience, Mrs. Carlson’s GATE class effectively encouraged students to think critically about their future academic and career goals. Their efforts reflect a strong commitment to leadership, collaboration, and college and career readiness.
