December Board Meeting Includes Performance by El Dorado High School Choir, Program, and Student Board Member Recognition

On Tuesday, December 16, the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD) Board of Education convened for its regularly scheduled meeting, which highlighted student performance, exemplary programs, and student leadership. The meeting opened with a festive performance by students from the El Dorado High School Choral Music Program under the Director of Marlon Santizo, whose presentation brought seasonal warmth and artistry to the evening.

During the meeting, the Board formally recognized the district’s Preschool Inclusion Initiative, recently honored with a California School Boards Association (CSBA) Golden Bell Award—the district’s first in more than a decade. The recognition celebrated the collaborative efforts of district preschool staff and leadership in creating inclusive, co-taught early learning environments. The initiative, led by district staff in partnership with Orange County Head Start, resulted in the county’s first co-taught preschool classroom and has since expanded across multiple district preschool sites. The Board acknowledged the leadership of early education administrators and the dedication of preschool principals, directors, teachers, and support staff whose collective efforts have embedded inclusive practices throughout the district’s preschool programs.

The Board also recognized outgoing Student Board Member Ariana Mejia of El Camino Real High School for her service during the semester. Throughout her term, Ariana represented the student voice with professionalism, insight, and commitment, providing thoughtful reports and meaningful feedback. As she prepares to graduate early and begin the next chapter of her academic journey at Cypress College, the Board congratulated her on this milestone and expressed appreciation for her contributions to the district.

Together, the recognitions and performances reflected PYLUSD’s continued commitment to student voice, inclusive practices, and excellence across all levels of learning.
