Esperanza High School and Melrose Elementary Unite Through a Creative Ceramic Arts Partnership

Students in Mr. Kowalski’s Advanced Ceramics program at Esperanza High School recently participated in a unique artistic collaboration with students from Mrs. Campos’ Kindergarten class at Melrose Elementary School, creating a memorable learning experience that connected students across grade levels through creativity and mentorship.

The project began in October 2025, when Melrose kindergarten students designed imaginative monster characters inspired by Monsters, Inc. and their ClassDojo avatars. The original drawings were then shared with Esperanza’s Advanced Ceramics students, who carefully interpreted each design and transformed the two-dimensional artwork into individualized three-dimensional ceramic sculptures.

In March 2026, the high school artists visited Melrose Elementary to personally present the completed ceramic creations to their young designers. The opportunity for kindergarten students to see their original artwork brought to life provided a meaningful and memorable experience for both groups of students.

This collaborative initiative showcased the power of arts education to foster creativity, communication, and meaningful connections among students of different ages. Through artistic expression and mentorship, participants engaged in an authentic learning experience that celebrated imagination, craftsmanship, and community.
