Valencia High School students demonstrated exceptional achievement in science education by earning recognition at the Orange County American Chemical Society (ACS) Local Section Competition. Competing against students from 27 schools across Orange County, Valencia High School was the only school in Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District to receive awards in both competition categories.
The school’s First Year Chemistry Team and Chemistry Olympiad Team each earned fifth-place finishes in their respective divisions, showcasing their strong understanding of chemistry concepts and commitment to academic excellence.
The Chemistry Olympiad, a prestigious national program organized by the American Chemical Society, challenges students to demonstrate mastery of advanced chemistry through rigorous written and laboratory-based assessments. Success in the local competition reflects a high level of academic preparation, critical thinking, and scientific inquiry.
Valencia High School’s accomplishments were made possible through the dedication and mentorship of chemistry teachers Brady Bilhartz and James Womack. Their guidance and expertise helped prepare students for the demanding competition and supported their pursuit of excellence in the sciences.
The First Year Chemistry Team included Zoe Ahn, Jiyao Zhao, Vu Bui, Ian Lee, and Kenji Schroeder. Representing Valencia High School in the Chemistry Olympiad competition were Leana Sung, Aashna Shah, Noah Choi, and Ronald Correa.
Through their outstanding performances, these students represented Valencia High School, the Science Department, and PYLUSD with distinction, exemplifying the academic rigor and achievement that characterize the district’s educational programs.
