Esperanza students with special needs play basketball as part of Special Olympics program

On Sunday, May 15, Esperanza High School teachers Roger Galvan and Keri Walters took eight students with special needs and four general education students to Trabuco Hills High School in Mission Viejo for a basketball scrimmage. Trabuco Hills welcomed the students with cheerleaders and lots of fans shouting “Welcome Aztecs!” They even had an emcee call the game. The Unified Sports team, a rewarding program sponsored by the Special Olympics, had a wonderful time.

Esperanza is in the early stages of kicking off its own Unified Sports program. On Thursday, May 26, the school will hold its own “Cardinal vs. Gold” basketball exhibition game in the main gym at lunch. Everyone is welcome to attend this special event.
