Marbles speed down a track pulling enough G’s to circle a full 360-degree loop, then jump from one track to another on paper rollercoasters created by Golden Elementary School’s fifth grade gifted and talented education (GATE) students. Students measured, cut, folded, tested, redesigned and retested paper tracks, loops, curves and funnels to create rollercoasters standing up to two feet tall. The STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) challenge is to give a marble a long, exciting ride with curves, loops and even jumps. If only we could shrink ourselves to be the riders! Mrs. Hanna, Mrs. Hope and Mrs. Mulcahy’s classes were the engineers of these amazing creations.
