On Monday, June 6, students in Esperanza High School’s Spanish 3 classes received a special treat as they learned how to dance the salsa. Kathy Corcoran, a master dance instructor and owner of New Energy Ballroom Dance Studio, came to campus and taught three one-hour classes. Students learned the basic steps, history and culture of Latin dance, and truly enjoyed the experience. For some, it was the first time dancing with a partner in a classic dance setting.
Here’s what a few students had to say about the experience:
- Steven Maciel: “I gained a respect for the art of salsa, and had a great teacher who taught us well.”
- Derek Lieber: “If you ever get a chance to salsa dance, DO IT!”
- Jacob Thornburg: “¡Guau!”
Señor Goettsche plans to repeat the experience for next year’s Spanish 3 students, as well as form a Latin Culture Club that will organize other cultural events. Stay tuned for more exciting times in Español!
