Incoming Valencia High School seniors Nathan Fortner, Brennen Irey and Gavril Moniaga are enjoying their time at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) Summer High School Internship Program, titled “JPL SpaceSHIP.”
The students are learning an incredible amount of information. They are coding using JavaScript, Polymer, JSON, HTML, SQL and GIT to solve technical problems, and are participating in business meetings, technical reviews and staff team-building events. They’re working with NASA engineers, other high school interns and college interns from around the world. They’ve also learned a lot about JPL in general, and attend lunch-and-learn events where incredible scientists present topics and answer questions from the attendees. One of the presentations was about the Curiosity Mars Rover. The only downside is that the program has to end sooner than they’d like!
This eight-week internship is designed for high school students who have demonstrated a strong interest in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) studies. Click here for more details.
