On May 10, eighth-grade AVID ‘Standout Students’ from all six Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD) middle schools were recognized by the Orange County Department of Education at Angel Stadium of Anaheim. Tuffree Middle School student, Kayla Moran, was one of just eight students selected as an ‘Angels Scholar’ which includes a $10,000 college scholarship to be held in trust until she enrolls.
The evening included representatives from 71 AVID middle schools around Orange County. Each Standout Student was awarded a new laptop for their hard work throughout the school year.
AVID, short for ‘Advancement Via Individual Determination, supports students with post-secondary potential to successfully matriculate to college, persevere and earn a degree.
