AVID and AP students from El Dorado donate books to Topaz Elementary, JOYA Scholars

This week, AVID and AP English language students from El Dorado High School donated over 700 books to Topaz Elementary School, as well as JOYA Scholars.

EDHS teacher Shari Anderson and students Cristian Flores and Toby Teng delivered the books to Mrs. Lumby at Topaz. It was so great to see how excited the kids were about the books. One boy asked if there were any Diary of a Wimpy Kid books in the bags. When the teacher told him yes, he jumped up and down with excitement, and wanted to claim ownership immediately!

El Dorado student Abby Amaya made a sign that was delivered with the books. She wrote the words, “HAWK STRONG,” and then superimposed the words, “TIGER STRONG,” on top of it. When the teacher showed the intertwined wording to the kids at Topaz — informing them that they would someday be students at El Dorado — they lit up!

The El Dorado AVID/Interact Club kids already want to make this donation event an annual tradition.
