El Dorado Science Olympiad earns 10th place and many individual medals at regional competition

EDHS Science Olympiad.

At this year’s Orange County Science Olympiad Regionals, the El Dorado High School Golden Hawks had their best year yet and took home 10th place out of 36 teams! The competition was held on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at the University of California, Irvine.

“All of the students studied and competed their hearts out,” Head Coach Jessica Dutton shared.

Following competition, individual medalists were awarded including:
1st place in Gravity Vehicle – Kendall Bangert and Heidi Richard
5th place in Sounds of Music – Harrison Bangert and Jackson Solheid
5th place in Protein Modeling – Romney Olson, Emily Solheid, and Colin Thompson
6th place in Machines – Harrison Bangert and Conrad Coomler
Junior Varsity 3rd Place in Fossils – Howars Liao and Maverick Shuck

This year’s teams were lead by Head Coach Dutton and assistant coaches Kathy Oberle, Judy Rehburg, Addy Tang, Bob McKinnell, and Bryan Dutton. Way go to, Golden Hawks!

Science Olympiad is a scholastic competition where students compete in 23 events pertaining to various scientific disciplines including social science, earth and space science, physical science and chemistry, technology and engineering, and more. Each year, over 7,500 middle and high school teams from around the country compete in multiple levels of competition including regionals, states, and then nationals.
