The week of September 15, Valencia High School principal, Olivia Yaung, announced that 37 Tigers have been named Commended Students in the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program.
About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Although they will not continue in the 2018 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 scorers of more than 1.6 million students who entered the 2018 competition by taking the 2016 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
In addition, VHS was also proud to learn that four seniors, Edward Fletes, Max Garcia, Avery Olivar, and Sandy Pantoja, were selected as National Hispanic Scholars in the 2018 National Hispanic Recognition Program.
The National Hispanic Recognition Program recognizes the top 2.5% among Hispanic and Latino PSAT/NMSQT test takers in the nation. In addition to a qualifying PSAT score, students must earn a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher by the middle of their junior year.
Great job, Tigers!
