Cathryn Salladin, an 18 year old senior at Parkview School, has signed to swim for the Crimson Tide at the University of Alabama. She will replace her Panther blue and silver with Crimson Tide red! She received a ‘full ride’ scholarship for academics and athletics.
Cathryn has been swimming since she was five years old. She has been swimming competitively for 13 years, starting with STOP, Swim Team of Placentia and then moved to FAST, Fullerton Aquatics Sports Team. She is currently on the United States National Team and ranked one of the top six in the 10K Open Water event. Open water swimming means lakes and oceans. She chose Open Water Swimming because in her words, “…it’s raw swimming, no technique, more of a racing environment….most races are two hours long…”
Cathryn has participated in many events and has quite the arsenal of medals! She’s won medals in the Southern California and Nevada Sectional. At Nationals, she earned seventh place in the mile swim. In Open Water Nationals, held at Castaic Lake, she’s ranked fourth and is ranked 10th in the World Championships, eighth in the French Nationals and the Hong Kong World Cup. These are 25K Open Water events.
Not only is Cathryn a star athlete, recruited by many other college institutions, she’s a stellar student academically. She is a National Merit Semi Finalist scoring higher than 1% of all high school students in the United States! She concurrently takes classes not only at Parkview, but at the college level as well. Her current GPA is 4.4. Other interests and talents of Cathryn’s are singing and performing in all but two of Parkview’s plays. Currently she’s in rehearsals for Parkview’s newest endeavor and was cast as the Baker’s Wife, in the play, “Into The Woods”.
Cathryn is quite an accomplished pianist, playing the piano since she was four years old. She is very close to her two siblings and at Parkview’s Variety Show, she sang a duet with her sister, “Some Things Are Meant To Be.”
Cathryn has a very supportive family. They are Yorba Linda residents for the past 17 years. She attends Vineyard Church in Anaheim and has a strong faith base. Her younger siblings, Nicole and Andrew, are also accomplished swimmers and pianists, following in their older sister’s footsteps.
Cathryn has set and accomplished many goals for herself. Short term, she’d like to place at Nationals and improve from last year’s time. Long term, she’s quite pragmatic and open to whatever the future holds for her.
Parkview is very proud of one of their own.
