Valencia student awarded certificate of achievement by the Association of California School Administrators

VHS student.Destiny and VHS counselor, Liz Nasouf.

Valencia High School (VHS) student Destiny LaFlower-Somerville was recognized by Association of California School Administrators (ACSA) for her academic and personal success against all odds and expectations.  Destiny was celebrated as a part of the “Every Student Succeeding Program” at a breakfast celebration at the Bowers Museum on Friday, March 9, and received a laptop, as well as Disneyland tickets.  She was joined by VHS counselor, Liz Nasouf.

Here’s what Destiny’s counselor, Tonia Bahner, submitted on her behalf:

Destiny has faced much adversity in her life and has shown great resilience over the last several years. In the four years that Destiny has been in high school, she has transitioned from our freshman at-risk program to maintaining over a 3.00 GPA the last three years. She has become extremely active on campus with our Every Buddy club and is currently serving as co-president of the organization. She is planning to attend college in the fall and wants to become a special education teacher. She is also very active in the community and was recently recognized by Disney Dreamers and Doers for her contribution to many homeless families by assisting them in securing food and shelter.

Great work, Tiger!

Student's award.
