On May 3, El Dorado High School Choral Music hosted a choir festival through the Southern California Vocal Association (SCVA) in the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD) Performing Arts Center, known as the PAC.
El Dorado High School’s Vocal Ensemble, Advanced Women’s Ensemble, and Men’s Choir, Esperanza High School’s Vocal Ensemble, Vivace, and Concert Choir, Valencia High School’s Chamber Singers and Women’s Ensemble, and Yorba Linda High School’s Mustang Singers all participated and represented the District really well among 15 other high school choirs from 11 different high school across Southern California. This was the first year all four PYLUSD comprehensive high schools participated.
El Dorado High School (EDHS)
The EDHS Vocal Ensemble received a “Superior” in the “Advanced” division. This is the highest possible rating within the highest level choirs can enter in. The EDHS Advanced Women’s Ensemble received a “Superior” in the “Intermediate” division. The EDHS Men’s Choir received an “Excellent” in the “Novice” division.
“I am so proud of how well the Choral Hawks of EDHS not only sang with such heart, but were such gracious hosts through SCVA. They have been working so diligently the past few months and I was happy to see this reflected in our ratings. I was also thankful to share this experience with my PYLUSD choral music colleagues.” shared El Dorado’s Director of Choral Music, Ryan Yoder.
Esperanza High School (EHS)
The EHS Vocal Ensemble received an “Excellent” in the “Intermediate” division. The EHS Vivace received an “Excellent” in the “Intermediate” division. The EHS Concert Choir received an “Excellent” in the “Novice” division.
“It was a great experience to have all four comprehensive high schools represented at the SCVA ratings festival. What a wonderful opportunity for each program to come together and recognize the value of the choral music community within the district. I am very proud of our Choral Aztecs.” shared Esperanza’s Director of Choral Music, Katie Villarreal.
Valencia High School
The VHS Chamber Singers received an “Excellent” in the “Intermediate” division. The VHS Women’s Ensemble received an “Excellent” in the “Intermediate” division.
Yorba Linda High School
The YLHS Mustang Singers received an “Excellent” in the “Intermediate” division.
“As a first year teacher in PYLUSD, seeing the growth of our high schools choral music programs throughout the year has been absolutely gratifying. Conducting the Mustang Singers at my very first SCVA festival as their new choir director was extremely rewarding.
