Recollection is a club at Valencia High School (VHS) devoted to the service of Alzheimer and Dementia patients through the use of handcrafted scrapbooks. These scrapbooks provide patients a way to reflect on their lives and adventures. Members can put their artistic and creative sides to use and help the community simultaneously by creating these scrapbooks. Each scrapbook consists of a unique theme chosen by the members.
Recently, Valencia High School’s Recollection Club organized a service project for the Alzheimer and Dementia patients at the Brookdale Memory Care Center located in Yorba Linda.
On May 18, 2019, Anirudh Vaiyapuri, and David Chan, who are currently sophomores at Valencia High School, visited the center in order to donate the books created. They received overwhelming positive feedback. The volunteer coordinator at the Memory Care Center encouraged the creation of more themed books as it was beneficial to the patients living there. Through the guidance of their adviser, Mrs. Olive, the Recollection Club plans to make more scrapbooks in the future. Great work, Tigers!
