El Camino Real High senior, Genevieve O’Gilvy, was recently honored by the Yorba Linda Rotary Club as the school’s “Most Improved Student.”
Genny came to El Camino last March after attending multiple high schools in Fullerton. She shared how she never felt as though she fit in at her previous schools and had poor attendance as a result. An incredibly bright, creative, and curious student, Genny has found her home at El Camino. Staff appreciate how she contributes thoughtful responses to class discussions and can often be seen helping her peers.
Despite any challenges in her personal life, Genny does not play the victim or place blame, according to Principal Carey Aiello.
“She is certainly wise beyond her years, able to articulate her struggles and successes beautifully,” Aiello shared. “The Raptors are proud of how she has earned all As and Bs and is on track to graduate from high school at least one full semester early.”
Genny is part of the El Camino Leadership class, the new Women’s Studies partnership with Soroptimist International, and the Project Based Learning course.
In addition to being recognized by the Rotary for her vast improvement in academics and attendance, she has been selected to attend a special Soroptimist International event in November with 2 other students, Principal Aiello, and the school’s Language Arts teachers.
