Esperanza Medical Sciences students learn about advanced concepts and equipment at UCI

Esperanza High School MSA students at UCI.

Medical Sciences Academy students from Esperanza High School recently had the opportunity to visit the University of California, Irvine (UCI) Urology Department. The students were extremely engaged and challenged as they learned how to work with high-tech medical equipment such as the DaVinci Robotic Surgical machine.

The Aztecs extracted seeds from a bell pepper using laparoscopic equipment and were able to detect cancerous tumors embedded in a silicone slab using ultrasound equipment. They even had the opportunity to learn about a variety of suturing techniques on silicone models. The visit was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for these future health professional students!

The Medical Sciences Academy at EHS is a program that prepares students for a variety of medical careers and a successful transition to colleges and universities. MSA instructors equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary for immediate employment, industry certification, and both college and career readiness through real-world experiences.
