On Friday, December 2, Ruby Drive Elementary School families were invited to the first annual AVID Parent Showcase. The evening began with a brief overview of the Ruby Drive AVID program by Principal Ms. Carmona in the MPR, and then all classroom teachers opened their doors so that families could walk around campus and get to know the AVID program at each grade level.
Students escorted their families throughout the rooms and showed their organization systems and work samples under the WICORized “AVID” instructional model. Families were encouraged to visit classrooms across campus to see the progression of AVID instruction, beginning with our youngest students in Transitional Kindergarten through our oldest scholars in Grade 6.
Students and families then participated in an AVID scavenger hunt as they learned about nationwide and district statistics in regard to AVID. This community event was then followed by an evening of music, food, and performances for our families under the theme of “Winter Wonderland.”
