El Dorado’s Winter Guard wraps up impressive season with trip to World Championships and 2nd place win at WGASC Championship

El Dorado guard.

On April 11, the El Dorado Winter Guard traveled to Dayton, Ohio to participate in the prestigious 2023 Winter Guard International (WGI) World Championships. This annual event hosts Winter Guards from all over the country to perform and compete during this 3-day event. After starting the season in Open Class (intermediate level) and winning the San Diego WGI Regional, El Dorado was promoted to the World Class (advanced level) based on their student skill level and show design which meant they would be competing against the best of the best high school winter guards in the country.

Upon arriving in Dayton, El Dorado was ranked 16th in World Class. After a stunning Prelims performance, they moved up to 11th place then moved up to 10th place after an amazing Semi-Finals performance. They went on to make school history by being the first group of Golden Hawks to perform in WGI World Class Finals and earned 8th place in front of 11,000 spectators in the University of Dayton Arena, solidifying them as one of the top 10 Winter Guard programs in the country!

The students, staff, and boosters had an amazing experience during WGI World Championships and look forward to returning to World Class Finals next year!
