El Camino Real High School celebrates its Class of 2023

On Tuesday, June 13, El Camino Real High School (ECRHS) held its 2023 commencement ceremony in Bradford Stadium at Valencia High School. Following the 2022-2023 school year, the school awarded 88 students with their high school diplomas.

Honored guests included Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD) Board of Education Trustees Marilyn Anderson and Carrie Buck, Superintendent Dr. Alex Cherniss, Director of Communications Alyssa Griffiths, Director of High Schools Gina Aguilar, Director of Student Achievement and Support Dr. Shelley Spessard, and Principal Scott Mazurier.

The ceremony also included a list of speakers including students Maelina Bowman and Luna Olguin. Both graduates delivered speeches filled with themes of gratitude for El Camino Real and its uniqueness as a continuation high school. They also thanked the Raptors’ dedicated faculty and staff, including Dean of Students Amanda Boggs, for their unwavering support to their graduating class. Parent Victoria Ortiz, the mother of Jada Aguilar, also addressed the crowd and echoed the students’ sentiments about El Camino and its staff.

Principal Mazurier also spoke to the graduates, reminding them that “…failure and rough seas are a part of life, but they are not reasons to give up. Continue to learn from your mistakes, persevere through challenges, and keep pushing forward with determination and resilience.” He went on to say, “You will always have a home at El Camino Real High School, but as high school graduates, you are now ready to sail into your next adventure. Go, and leave your unique mark on this world!”

Of the 88 ECRHS students, 50% of graduates filled out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, known as FAFSA, indicating they plan to enroll in college after graduation. Others have selected a trade school, one plans to enlist in the military, and others will begin to work full-time. The ECRHS Class of 2023 also increased their scholarship earnings by 50% this year! Congratulations, graduates!
