The Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD) Family Resource Center held its annual backpack and school supply distribution on August 14. Over 800 McKinney Vento students and their families came by the Center at Topaz Elementary School in Fullerton to receive their free backpacks with school supplies provided by Supply Bank.
The McKinney Vento program supports students and families who are in a transitional housing situation, such as sharing a home, living in a motel/hotel, or in a shelter, park, or campground. Funds are provided to PYLUSD through both state and federal grants to support these vulnerable students. The Family Resource Center assists these families in a myriad of ways, including assistance with food, clothing, school needs, and referrals to outside agencies.
This year, the Rotary Club of Yorba Linda assisted with the distribution. Several Rotary Club members not only showed up to assist in the distribution but also donated over 140 high school-sized backpacks for PYLUSD students!

The Rotary Club of Yorba Linda has been a consistent source of help over the years, and we are so grateful for their help. In order to help so many students and families we need our community supporters, who are a constant source of assistance and inspiration.”
