Lakeview Elementary School’s Sunshine Squad is off to an amazing year full of kindness and compassion. The Sunshine Squad is composed of 51 fourth and fifth graders, led by teachers Shannon Vlastnik and Sally Lester, whose main goal is to promote kindness, inclusivity, and philanthropy.
September began with a Friendsgiving for all of the newest Lakeview Lions, including games and snacks. Next, came the group held its annual “S”Book”tacular” in October, which included multiple Halloween stories read to students during recess. The students told all Lakeview teachers that they were “All that and a Bag of Chips” to keep their energy up during conference week in November.
The group’s biggest event so far this year was was “Holidays Around the World.” Posters were made by the students to highlight nine holiday traditions including Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, St. Nicholas Day, Boxing Day, and many more could be found all around the world. All students were welcome to enter the multi-purpose room, grab a passport, find a holiday tradition, hear stories, learn facts, and even be taught a dance.
“We are all looking forward to spreading more sunshine in 2024!” Mrs. Vlastnik shared.
