Students at Bernardo Yorba Middle School engage in a variety of methods to reach deeper understanding of complex topics. In Mr. Seitz’s eighth grade history class, students use Socratic Seminars to openly discuss varying viewpoints. The topic in this case is an article from AVID Weekly titled, “America can rediscover greatness by rediscovering the Constitution.” This piece ties perfectly in with the history class’s document-based question (DBQ) study of how the Constitution defends against tyranny. Opportunities like this allow students at Bernardo to take greater ownership of their learning experience.
