On Tuesday, February 27, 2024, Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD) music educators and district leaders attended the Orange County Music and Arts Administrators (OCMAA) 2024 Arts Award Ceremony. The event took place in the Samueli Theater at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa. This event is sponsored by the Orange County Department of Education, OCMAA, and several local arts organizations.
The event honors Orange County’s finest music educators and leaders including many from PYLUSD. Recognized as nominees were elementary music teacher Rose Neumayr, Esperanza High School principal Jeff Giles, and Orchestra Director at Kraemer Middle School and Valencia High School Bruce Topping. Earning the Secondary Instrumental Educator of the Year was Jennifer Garcia from Valadez Middle School Academy. In addition, Visual and Performing Arts Coordinator, Phil Mortensen, received the OCMAA Administrator Award.
Phil Mortensen mentioned, “The event was a great celebration of our amazing teachers and Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District was well represented. Attending the event in support of our awardees was Board Member, Marilyn Anderson, Director of Elementary Education, Dr. Liz Leon, and Coordinator of Elementary Education, Krisa Muller.”
Founded by the Orange County Department of Education, OCMAA is an active coalition of school districts, community arts organizations, parents, and business leaders who work collaboratively to ensure a high quality inclusive, accessible, and equitable arts education for every student in the county.
