On Tuesday, February 27, the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD) held its third middle school sports event of the 2023-2024 school year with a districtwide basketball tournament at El Dorado High School. Hundreds of 6th, 7th, and 8th graders practiced and scrimmaged leading up to the tournament. Teams from all six middle schools competed in a round-robin, elimination-style tournament.

In the end, Yorba Linda Middle School and Kraemer Middle School were the two teams that competed in the championship for both boys and girls. Yorba Linda Middle School came out on top in both games. Congratulations, Bobcats!

The event was hosted and supported by the El Dorado High School womens and mens basketball programs including refereeing, organization, and general volunteering. El Dorado’s principal Joey Davis and athletic director Ray Elliot were also instrumental in planning the tournament and making it a fun time for all middle schoolers involved.

“The Middle School Athletics basketball tournament was a great success!” Middle School Athletics Coordinator and Tuffree Assistant Principal Sarah Barton shared. “All six middle schools were represented and showed incredible athleticism and sportsmanship.”

The next district-wide middle school sports event will be a wrestling tournament held at Valencia High School on Friday, April 12, 2024. See you there!
