Miss Placentia 2024, Madeline Smith, and her counterpart, Miss Yorba Linda 2024, Paulina Dole are embarking on a noble mission within the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD). As part of their community service initiatives, these titleholders are bringing smiles and inspiration to elementary school students through a series of engaging activities designed to foster kindness and ignite passion for STEM subjects.
Madeline is on a mission to spread the message of “Compassion In Action: Changing Lives One Act At A Time.” Her dedication to this cause is evident as she visits elementary schools within PYLUSD to deliver a curated kindness course with a blend of interactive exercises and heartfelt discussions. Madeline aims to instill essential character traits such as respect, caring, inclusiveness, integrity, responsibility, and courage.
Accompanying Madeline’s kindness courses are enchanting story time sessions where she reads carefully selected books that exemplify the power of kindness. Among the cherished literary works are “Kindness is My Superpower” by Alicia Ortego and “Kindness Starts With You” by Jacquelyn Stagg. These tales not only captivate young imaginations but also reinforce the profound impact of simple acts of kindness in creating a brighter world.
Paulina’s fervent dedication to promoting science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education among youth is evident. Under the banner of “STEMpowered: Encouraging Our Youth in STEM,” Paulina champions the importance of the concepts in shaping tomorrow’s leaders. With a focus on fostering creativity, problem-solving skills, and a lifelong love for learning, she engages students through innovative experiments and activities. Through her initiative, Paulina’s Wonder Lab, Miss Yorba Linda provides accessible resources for both in-person and online learning, ensuring that all students have the opportunity to explore the wonders of STEM.
Furthermore, Paulina collaborates with the REACH Foundation to support STEM programs within the PYLUSD, amplifying the impact of her outreach efforts. By nurturing curiosity and critical thinking in young minds, she empowers students to envision a future enriched by the boundless possibilities of STEM disciplines.
Both misses are proud PYLUSD alumnas. Madeline attended Van Buren Elementary, Kraemer Middle, and El Dorado High and graduated with the Class of 2023 while Paulina went to Lakeview and Golden elementary schools, Yorba Linda Middle School, and Yorba Linda High School.
Paulina shares the following about her experience giving back on PYLUSD campuses: “It’s incredibly special every time I come back because not only can I inspire the next generation of leaders, but I also get to reconnect with my former teachers and tell them thank you for helping me to become the woman that I am today… it solidifies the impact that our K-12 teachers have on our successes and the legacy we leave on the hearts of others.”
The presence of Miss Placentia and Miss Yorba Linda in PYLUSD elementary schools goes beyond the realms of glamour and pageantry. They serve as shining examples of compassion, leadership, and advocacy, inspiring students to embrace kindness and pursue excellence in every facet of their lives. As role models and mentors, they leave an imprint on the hearts and minds of the next generation, shaping a brighter future for the PYLUSD community and beyond.
