On May 4, Valencia High School (VHS) hosted its annual AVID Senior Signing Day. It was a momentous occasion for the graduating class of 2024, particularly for the 68 AVID Senior Scholars who took center stage to celebrate their remarkable academic journeys. Every single VHS AVID senior not only applied to a 4-year university but also received acceptance offers—a testament to their unwavering commitment to higher education and personal growth.
Among the distinguished scholars, one standout individual, Silvana Juarez-Pliego, was honored as a Dell Scholar and will be pursuing a degree in Public Health at CSUF. Eight students were awarded the prestigious Abrego Scholarship: Cindy Anicacio, Guadalupe Bautista Perez, Eduardo Carrasco, Lily Fazio, Fernando Fuentes, Christy Martinez, Estrella Medina Murillo, and Bianca Tapia. Athletic prowess was also celebrated, with four students committing to university-level sports. Giselle Cancino will be showcasing her skills in soccer at Westmont University, while Yishai Rodriguez will be sprinting towards success in track at Chapman University. Moreover, two students, Jorge Prado and Joe Palacios, have committed to playing soccer at community colleges, exemplifying the well-rounded nature of VHS’s graduating class.
Integral to the success of these students is the AVID Senior Seminar course, which provides invaluable support throughout the college application process.
