Venture Academy celebrates its Class of 2024 graduates

On June 5, the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District’s (PYLUSD) Adult Transition Program, known as Venture Academy, held its annual graduation ceremony to honor the Class of 2024. This significant event took place at the PYLUSD Performing Arts Center in Placentia, marking a momentous occasion for the 23 graduates.

The ceremony commenced with a procession of the graduates, followed by a warm welcome from Principal Rebecca Allan. She extended her greetings to the distinguished guests in attendance, including Board Trustee Marilyn Anderson, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Alex Cherniss, Assistant Superintendent of Student Support Services Renee Gray, Director of Special Education Gwen Redira, Executive Director of Secondary Education Dr. William Gray, and Director of Student Services Gina Aguilar. Principal Allan also expressed her gratitude to the families, staff members, and most importantly, the graduates who were the stars of the evening.

The event was highlighted by heartfelt speeches from students Tommy McTeir, Kaylie Meredith, Javier Felix, Amir Jabeer, and Scott Conte. Each of them shared their experiences and expressed profound gratitude for the adult transition program and its dedicated staff. In a notable moment, Henry Nieto was awarded a special scholarship from the Placentia Linda Unified Managers, aimed at supporting his future aspirations.

Renee Gray, Assistant Superintendent of Student Support Services, delivered an inspiring keynote address, commending the graduates for their remarkable growth and achievements. “To our amazing students, you have faced challenges with courage and determination. You have also experienced wonderful successes whether it be through your work experiences at Expressions Florist or Grocery Outlet, or your participation in Venture Choir, you have all grown, learned, and achieved so much in all of those endeavors. Your unique talents and strengths have shone brightly, and we are immensely proud of each and every one of you. All 23 of you have shown that with perseverance and a positive attitude, anything is possible,” she remarked. She emphasized how the skills, experiences, and friendships forged at Venture Academy will provide a robust foundation for the graduates’ future endeavors.

The audience was then treated to a performance by Venture Academy’s choir, directed by staff member Carmen Coindreau Gonzalez. This performance was the result of many afternoons spent in practice, where students honed their musical abilities and built self-esteem under Ms. Gonzalez’s guidance.

Trustee Marilyn Anderson formally accepted the Class of 2024, acknowledging their successful completion of all program requirements. She offered heartfelt words of encouragement and praise, recognizing the hard work and dedication of these young adults.

The ceremony concluded with the presentation of certificates of completion to each graduate by Venture Academy teachers, marking the culmination of their journey at the academy. The evening was a testament to the perseverance, growth, and achievements of the Class of 2024. Congratulations to all the graduates!
