Glenview Elementary is proud to announce the launch of the school’s first Spanish Language Development intervention program. Glen’s SLD Academy is designed to support Spanish Learners and serves 76 students in grades 2 through 6, providing them with essential language skills to thrive academically in a bilingual setting.
The program, taught by dedicated dual language educators at Glenview, aims to enhance students’ proficiency in Spanish while fostering a love for the language and its cultural richness. The program focuses on listening and speaking skills, utilizing a variety of teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles.
At Glen’s SLD Academy, the staff believes that real, spontaneous speech with explicit implementation of research-based strategies is the key to mastering any language. Instructors at Glenview immerse students in dynamic language experiences, empowering them to speak Spanish confidently while embracing cultural diversity through everyday conversations.
Parents and guardians have expressed overwhelming support for the program. Erica Perez, a Glenview parent, stated, “As parents of two DLA students, we are excited for this academy, and are very thankful for the teachers and administrators who made this happen.”
As Glenview Elementary continues to foster an inclusive learning environment, Glen’s SLD Academy stands as a testament to the district’s commitment to serving the diverse needs of its students. The program not only prepares students for academic success but also equips them with valuable skills for their futures. Way to go Bulldogs!
