Valencia High School Academic Decathletes Advance to State Following Division I Success

On February 6, 2026, the Valencia High School Academic Decathlon team earned second place overall in Division I at the Orange County Academic Decathlon Awards. This achievement qualified the team for the California Academic Decathlon State Competition, scheduled for March. Team members included Aashna Shah, Amy Sun, Meteo Mestaz, Lynzie Lim, Nethra Rajkumar, Leonardo Nguyen, Ian Lee, Ahnsh Shah, and Nikil Rajkumar.

The team earned more than 61 medals across ten academic disciplines: Social Science, Science, Literature, Music, Mathematics, Art, Economics, Essay, Speech, and Interview. In alignment with the competition’s annual theme, all subject areas focused on the 1920s. Several students received top-ten individual honors, including Amy Sun (6th place, Honors Division), Lynzie Lim (3rd place, Scholastic Division), Ian Lee (3rd place, Varsity Division), Ahnsh Shah (4th place, Varsity Division), Nikil Rajkumar (7th place, Varsity Division), and Jaden Xavier (10th place, Varsity Division).

In addition, Aashna Shah, Lynzie Lim, and Nethra Rajkumar were recognized by the Orange County Department of Education for individual excellence and were awarded scholarships. Collectively, Valencia High School decathletes earned more than $7,000 in scholarships during the awards ceremony.
