From May 31 to June 3, Lakeview Elementary School third graders blasted off into outer space in Willy Wonka’s great glass elevator! Every year at the end of school, students in Ms. Goyette and Mrs. Olson/Riggio’s classes begin the novel Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator by Roald Dahl. As a culminating activity, Mrs. Olson created a glass elevator experience for the kids that consisted of several out-of-this-world ideas. Students took part in various science experiments, learned about and compared different planets, made Vermicious Knids out of Playdough, calculated their weight and age on different planets, emailed their family about their glass elevator experience, made postcards sharing what space was like, participated in math star logic puzzles, and did a creative writing assignment through Google Classroom. It was such a fun, learning experience for all students!
