On Monday, June 6, Valencia High School students in the Val Tech Academy had the opportunity to see the connection between what they are learning in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) classes and how it relates to the real world, courtesy of Clayton Controls, a local automation systems company.
Clayton Controls brought its 63-foot-long Mitsubishi “Solutions in Motion” semi-truck to Valencia for students to explore and interact with. Students had the chance to see mechanical-based robotics and servo drives in motion. They were awed with what it had to show. A robot that worked side-by-side with an engineer was especially a treat. The robot worked at a quick pace. It had sensors that would slow down if the engineer came nearby, and stop altogether if the engineer was too close.
The “Solutions in Motion” truck was at Valencia from the beginning of first period through the end of lunch, and approximately 200 students were able to tour it. Students ranged from ninth to 12th grade, and studied a variety of courses, from robotics to computer maintenance and pre-engineering technology. Additionally, some eighth grade students in the bridge robotics classes from Kraemer Middle School were also able to engage in this exciting opportunity.
Valencia is extremely appreciative of the community support and opportunity that Clayton Controls has offered our students.
