On Friday, Sept. 9, Melrose Elementary School took the opportunity to remember the victims who lost their lives in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, as well as those who died in service to others. The firefighters of Placentia Fire Station 35 joined the school in honoring the courageous firefighters, police officers and paramedics who rushed in to help others 15 years ago in New York City and Washington, D.C. Staff and students talked about the selflessness of strangers helping strangers, and the kindness of people all around the world who sent cards, supplies and comfort to those in need. This was an opportunity to turn something negative into a positive activity by honoring the good work of others. The students are grateful to the first responders who keep them safe as they learn at Melrose.
