Mrs. Olson and Mrs. Riggio have been busy creating exciting and engaging activities for their students at Lakeview Elementary School. Their third grade class has been actively using Chromebooks and cooperative learning techniques to enhance and strengthen math skills. In science, their class started a new unit about energy called, “Energizing Everything.” STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) activities were included to help students learn how things need energy to move, and that energy can be stored in many different ways. Students built a rubber band racer to test how the energy put into the racer impacts how far the racer goes. In learning that energy can be stored as height, students also investigated how hills give roller coasters energy by experimenting with and creating “bumper coasters.”
Bring Your Own Device day
Mrs. Harper’s class has had some amazing, PAWS-itive behavior! They recently filled up their class marble jar, and chose to have a Bring Your Own Device day. Students were elated to bring their own technological device to school to assist in an awesome learning experience! PAWS stands for Practice safety, Act responsibly, Work together and Show respect.
Family Fun Night
Lakeview families brought their picnic dinners and blankets to school on Friday, Oct. 2, to enjoy a Family Fun Night. The PTA set up a movie, and invited families to enjoy a night under the stars with their Lakeview friends. The movie Home was on the big screen, and the PTA provided popcorn, candy and drinks. This evening was a give-back to our school community, and a thank you for all of the support that our members have shown our school and our PTA. About 200 people came out to enjoy the evening, and it was deemed a huge success! Our families are already asking when we will do it again.
