Excitement explodes at Brookhaven Elementary

Fifth grade students at Brookhaven Elementary School read an exciting nonfiction story about volcanoes. Then, their language arts teacher, Mrs. Sarah Walls, had them create extension projects to connect their language arts reading to science. Mrs. Walls allowed them to create whatever type of volcano project they wanted, as long as it demonstrated effort, creativity and an understanding of volcanoes. Many students created different types of 3D models using various supplies and chemical reactions. They were quite fun to watch, as the fifth graders made their projects explode one by one on the field! Some students organized well-researched PowerPoints and presented them to their peers, while others designed trifold poster boards displaying their facts. Two students even created movies, making it evident that Brookhaven might have the next Bill Nye the Science Guy or Lily Pal the Science Gal, as created by student filmmaker Gabrielle Raasch! Mrs. Walls and the parents who attended were blown away with the amazing creativity and talent on display in this fifth grade class.
