On Friday, Dec. 9, the Little Diggers of Bryant Ranch School had their biweekly meeting, and students had a chance to plant snap pea seedlings in planters at the garden center. As with nature, some seeds grew into big and beautiful plants, while others grew slower and steadier at their own pace.
The Little Diggers also had an opportunity to plant new crops consisting of purple cauliflower, tomatoes, strawberries, red beets, celery and an assortment of perennial herbs in the garden center. The students hope to harvest the delicious plants in a couple of months, and sell them at their Farmer’s Market.
At the previous meeting on Nov. 4, the Little Diggers celebrated America Recycles Day by bringing in plastic beverage bottles, and learning about helping the environment through recycling. They also made fun paper hand pledges to reduce, reuse and recycle. Reusing and recycling are important for the Bryant Ranch Little Diggers garden club. The students are taught to conserve at the garden center, and to be more environmentally aware.
