Last week, Rio Vista Elementary School students participated in the annual Hour of Code. Code.org is a nonprofit dedicated to expanding access to computer science, and increasing participation by women and underrepresented minorities. Participating classes utilized Chromebooks (third through fifth grade) or iPads (kindergarten through second grade) to code through 20 levels of interactive games, including Angry Birds, Ice Age and Plants vs. Zombies. The Rio Leopards were engaged the whole time. Some students completed the entire Hour of Code, and were awarded certificates of completion from Code.org.
