The Creative Writing Club at El Dorado High School recently received an award from the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE). The honor recognizes EDHS with a “Superior” rating for “Excellence in Student Literacy Magazines” for their publication, “Dream What You Want.”
This is the 19th year El Dorado has been creating a student journal, and this is the highest award they have ever received. The school is up against several private and charter art schools, many of which offer creative writing as a course, and produce yearbook-like publications. El Dorado’s publication is purely student-driven – a lunchtime club activity that spans the course of second semester. It is the quality of these students’ creative work, their thoughtfulness at editing, and their love for literature and art that makes this journal so successful!
This award acknowledges last year’s journal. As El Dorado gears up for this year’s publication, it is exciting to see that the school ranks as one of the best in the state.
The pictured creative writing students from EDHS are Hailey Aardema, Janna Cruz, Carys Houck, Emily Perkins, Ty Prince, Sophia Song, Erica Vellanoweth and Karsyn Von Achen. They are advised by teacher Mrs. Amanda Wolf.
