Three PYLUSD high school students were recognized as “Shining Stars” by the Disneyland Dreamers & Doers program for their commitment and actions in creating a brighter tomorrow.
Each “Shining Star” student received two tickets to Disneyland, as well as a $1,000 pay-it-forward grant for their school. The three students were also treated to a celebration luncheon on Saturday, Feb. 25, along with their families and a representative from their school.
Esperanza High School
Senior Allyson Vuong is the founder of the “Literacy Advocates Club,” whose mission is to nurture an early love of reading and literacy in children.
Valencia High School
Junior May Wang is the founder of “Linens N Love,” a nonprofit organization that collects and donates used hotel linens to local shelters. To date, “Linens N Love” has donated over 8,000 linens to local shelters.
Yorba Linda High School
Junior Sarah Heckel created a summer camp at Oak Canyon Nature Center for middle school students, as well as a one-day experience for teens of Project S.A.Y. (Support Anaheim’s Youth) focusing on leadership development, team building and emergency preparedness. The teens also learned archery and wilderness survival skills.
