K to College provides much-needed school supplies at recent Melrose Elementary food distribution event

Melrose Elementary School held its monthly Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County fresh produce distribution on Tuesday, Oct. 27.

Each family received nearly 20 to 30 pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables, flu shots from Walgreens, and canned and packaged food items courtesy of district administrators.

Additionally, special bags of school supplies were distributed to all of the kindergarten and first grade McKinney-Vento students. These bags were generously donated by our partner, K to College. K to College is a nonprofit addressing the unmet material needs of homeless and other impoverished children. The students were thrilled with their new school supplies.

Board of Education Vice President Judi Carmona joined in on the fun, and helped distribute clothing and stuffed animals to Melrose families, which were collected from the Homeless Intervention Shelter and House (H.I.S.) thrift shop.

Valadez Middle School Academy students also showed up to volunteer. Thank you Valadez!
