Read for the Record creates space for Kraemer and Ruby Drive to enjoy the book “Nigel and the Moon” together

Read for the Record at Ruby with Kraemer.

On Wednesday, November 2, Kraemer Middle School and Ruby Drive Elementary partnered to participate in “Read for the Record,” an event focused on bringing students together to help set the record for reading the same book on the same day, building an intergenerational community through reading.

Students from Kraemer’s PEER Leadership and GEAR UP classes eagerly partnered up with Ruby’s 1st graders to read Nigel and the Moon. After reading the short fictional story, Kraemer students engaged with their 1st grade buddies through three pre-planned activities in Ruby’s multipurpose room. Each activity reinforced learning concepts and skills within the 1st grade curriculum.

Notably, both Ruby and Kraemer have earned distinction as AVID National Demonstration schools. AVID, which stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination, is a nonprofit organization that provides educators with proven, real-world strategies to accelerate the performance of all students so they have the tools to succeed in college, career, and life. By delivering collaborative activities that promote literacy, both schools positively impact learning through highly engaging instructional strategies and opportunities like Read for the Record.

Way to go, Kraemer and Ruby Drive!
